Men's Devo for Fathers' Day
Here is a simple devotional for men to study, discuss with their sons and other men, and pray over this month as we celebrate Fathers' Day and National Men's Ministries Day (June 21). In Matthew 3, when Jesus enters the Jordan River to be baptized by His cousin, John, the Lord demonstrates to us a deep familiarity and comfort level with His identity as Son of God, Son of Man, and Messiah. Here are four points to meditate upon.
#1
Identity with sinners: Although sinless, Jesus stands is line with repentant sinners to be baptized. He “carries out all that God requires” (vs. 15, NLT) by identifying with humanity.
Question: Have I noticed any changes in my relationships with God and others?
#2
Identity with obedience: Jesus’ baptism is an act of submission to the Father’s specific plan of salvation.
Question: How am I obeying what God’s Word teaches me? (see Matt. 28:20)
#3
Identity with prophecy: The event validates John the Baptist’s ministry as the one “who prepares the way” for the prophesied Messiah (Isa. 40:3).
Question: Am I living in such a way as to honor my God and the plans He has for me?
#4
Identity by example: Jesus shows how focused He is on His father’s mission. In all things, He sets the example for obeying and living for God.
Question: What distractions or temptations keep me from being an example of following Christ?
